Join Team Xtreme4 in their fight against climate change by pledging to go car free as they cycle across the country. During the week of June 11-18th, you can walk, skate, bike, scoot, take the bus or train, or telecommute. If you simply can't avoid the car, pledge to be "car-lite" by carpooling or vanpooling, or offset your emissions by purchasing carbon credits (link below).
Team Xtreme4 hopes to inspire more than 3,008 people across the country to take the pledge, so please don't forget to invite your friends, family and coworkers to join you!
Yes, I want to join the Xtreme4 Challenge! I pledge that during the week of June 11-18th, 2008, I will not drive alone in a car or will purchase carbon credits to offset that usage.
"New research shows that a person who rides public transportation instead of driving reduces his or her carbon dioxide output, a harmful greenhouse gas, by more than 20 lbs a day and 4,800 lbs annually. That saves more than weatherizing a home, adjusting a thermostat, switching to compact flourescent light bulbs and replacing older appliances with higher efficiency models, combined."

I usually take public transportation but will walk if it's not raining. We usually drive to the grocery store on the weekends, but we'll hit up Eastern Market instead
Jessica
Fabulous job with this! count me in too! I'll be biking all week & hopefully till the next snow falls!
Nisha
I already carpool to work but for this week I'll take the commuter rail or try biking in (30 mile commute one-way).
Tim
What an excellent challenge! I'm happy to do this, and encourage others as well. Wish me luck dodging DC traffic!

Shouldn't be too hard, since I normally walk to work (or take the bus if it rains). Good luck (and good weather)!
C. Stirling
Good luck, be safe and good job getting the word out!
Blake
I telecommute as a virtual assistant and would be happy to encourage or mentor others to do the same. I usually drive my 3 year old and 7 month old to preschool 2 days a week, we will be biking (with trailer & bike seat) or busing it, if it rains.
Judy
I already bike to work (12 miles RT) most days. This change of focus for commuters to more sustainable transportation methods is the right direction for the future of our children. Thank you.
Teri
Be safe! Have fun and good luck!
Alyssa
One year ago I pledged to hike form Gerogia to Maine. COllectively my wife and I logged in over 4,350 miles on foot. We did not drive/use our cars for almost five months.

Elizabeth Lazar
What an exciting challenge. Good luck on your endeavors as your cross the country!
Jeff Serfass
I love the "going green" aspect of your effort. But you are crazy for crossing the country with zero chance to "smell the roses." I take that back, you will smell them all, and a few other things.
Julie S
Wow, you all are a real inspiration!
Kenix
We'll be in Oxford, UK so mass transit will be a breeze, too bad the U.S. and N.Z. are a bit behind the curve! Great idea on the race, go get 'em Torito and Mariana and all your crew!

Hopefully this will get me in the habit of biking the 2 miles to work.

Can't NOT pledge I guess as the coach in this crazy but green game. It'll be a tough week to not use the car at all especially after a race on the weekend, but as I went for my drivers license at age 28 - I am pretty used to this.

I pledge to walk to school and/or ride my bike for that week. Buena suerte!

I already haven't been driving in 2 years. Although I did live in NY which makes it quite a bit easier to do. . Now I use the Metro North in CT and carpool! It's really fun and quite liberating to be free of a car (especially when they're so expensive!)
MoserEd
Although right now it feels more like global cooling, I pledge to ride that week, like every week, to work. However, at 155 pounds, I also must pledge to increase my consumption of carbs.
Bobby (Grohs)
I also run to work one day a week (about 8 miles) I challenge some to run!
Grohs
You guys rocks! I'll either ride or carpool every day.
